KING WHO PRESENTS:

the roof is on fire

THE LATEST SOUNDS TO SEEK OUT

HUZZ
"WALNUT"

With no regard for history, Huzz wipe a spot clean to lay its feathery
litter. If the blues can fly, they do, and this one does. Mixing the
vapid house music of the Happy Mondays with the clattering pop nonsense of Fun
Boy Three and running it through the filter of their own "western senses",
Huzz huffs its own exhalation and gets giddy for the first time in 10 years.
Their last decent album being 1990's "Plump".
These tunes start out squeaking, like blind runts, gasping for relief,
gazing blankly at the blue sky. They end up squawking like a Rumplemintz
salesman with his hands in the sauerkraut crying beery tears at 2 am in the
lobby of a Radisson. Randolf Hegemony is the bassist for Huzz and he plays it
through an effects box that is actually just a box containing the bones of a mouse,
a cobweb, a crab, and an ounce of hashish. Rice is the vocalist and
heartthrob of Huzz and he makes vocalizations that are so glibly avante, they make
Yoko Ono sound like Broadway's Annie. The gritty siren sound at the beginning of
"Squat For Life" sounds real but is actually Rice making mouth sounds
through a roll of wrapping paper. Rumor has it that it was recorded by strapping
a high-end mic to an Evinrude boat propeller and recording while Rice
squealed his head off. Incredible! I didn't believe it until I saw a clip from
the making of the album. I give the album a B- overall.
